The measure takes into account the significant increase in people on the beach during Carnival - Fabio Costa/Seop

The Municipal Secretariat of Public Order (Seop) published a resolution this Thursday (February 12th) allowing legally registered vendors with fixed locations on Rio's beaches to maintain their structures on the sand between midnight on Friday (February 13th) and 9 pm on Wednesday (February 18th). The measure takes into account the significant increase in people on the beach during Carnival, as well as the need to guarantee security, mobility, traffic flow, urban cleanliness, and other services in the public space. However, the stalls will only be allowed to operate between 7 am and 9 pm. After closing time, all chairs, tables, umbrellas, and other equipment used to serve the public must remain stored inside the respective stall. Therefore, the equipment cannot remain on the sand or the boardwalk.

– The main objective is to reduce the large volume of loading and unloading that exists on the beachfront and to offer better environmental conditions for Rio's coastline during Carnival. Normally, the vendors assemble and disassemble their structures daily. It is important to emphasize that failure to comply with any regulation may result in fines or seizure of equipment – stressed the Municipal Secretary of Public Order, Marcus Belchior.

After 21 PM, another prohibition during this period is the use of cargo transport structures on the boardwalks, central medians, and sidewalks along the beachfront. Restrictions also extend to the presence of any type of vehicle parked or stopped on the beachfront for the purpose of loading or unloading tents, chairs, umbrellas, or related equipment. It is important to note that failure to comply with the temporary regulations outlined in this resolution will subject the offender to applicable administrative sanctions, including fines, seizure of equipment, and possible suspension of operating permits, in accordance with current municipal legislation.
