On another summer weekend and street Carnival, the Municipal Secretariat of Public Order (SEOP) carried out inspection and ordering operations throughout the city, especially in the South and Central zones of Rio, which receive the greatest concentration of blocks and due to the beaches.

During an operation on the Copacabana beachfront this Sunday (16), aimed at combating the illegal rental of mopeds and electric bicycles, six vehicles were seized for being illegally rented by individuals, without proper maintenance, permit or any license for the activity. In addition, an individual was taken to the 12th DP for contempt and disobedience after threatening and verbally assaulting agents of the Rio + Seguro Program.

The irregular rental of these bicycles and mopeds not only constitutes an economic infraction, but also puts the safety of renters and visitors at risk: – SEOP remains firm in combating these irregular practices, ensuring that the services offered to the population comply with the city's rules – adds the Secretary of Public Order, Brenno Carnevale.

Combating Flanelinhas at Tourist Attractions

Also this weekend, SEOP teams carried out operations in tourist spots, such as Urca, Estrada das Paineiras and Praça Cuauhtémoc, in Flamengo, to combat the actions of parking attendants.

During the approaches, five individuals were taken to the police station for several infractions, including parking cars in areas not authorized by the Rio Rotativo system, illegal parking and other infractions.

In one of the incidents, on Saturday, the 15th, agents from the Public Order Department were monitoring illegal parking and taking action to curb the activities of parking attendants in Urca when one of them was approached by two tourists who reported that an illegal parking attendant, identified as André Luiz França da Silva, had charged R$100,00 to park on Rua Odílio Bacelar. The agent went to the location to get the parking attendant to return the money to the tourist, informing him that he could not charge for parking. The attendant refused to return it and attacked the inspector with punches and kicks. Support from another team was needed to restrain the individual and take him to the 10th Police Precinct. Although the victim went to the police headquarters to report the extortion, the incident was only recorded as contempt and the individual was released by the police authorities. The money was returned to the victim.
