Teams from the Municipal Department of Public Order (SEOP) and the Municipal Guard arrested two men on Tuesday morning (October 28) who were illegally transporting more than a ton of recyclable materials in a car with a fake license plate. The stop took place at the exit of the Santa Bárbara Tunnel (towards the city center), more precisely on Eleone de Almeira Street, in Catumbi, near the Sérgio Vieira de Mello Family Clinic. Agents from the Parking and Towing Enforcement Coordination (CFER) were conducting an operation against illegal transportation in the area.

The SEOP operation began around 5:30 a.m. Shortly thereafter, officers pulled over a Fiat Uno for illegally transporting a large amount of recyclable material. After checking the license plate in the Rio de Janeiro State Department of Transportation (LAC1978), it was found to belong to a GM/Omega, with the car's actual license plate being KQH1778. Furthermore, the two men were carrying two bags of marijuana and drug use materials.

"It's becoming increasingly common, yet irregular, to register vehicles carrying large quantities of recyclable materials or carrying out major removals, including refrigerators, stoves, mattresses, etc. SEOP and GM will increasingly be involved in specific actions to curb this type of practice," highlighted the Secretary of Public Order, Marcus Belchior.

The vehicle and the two men were initially taken to the 6th Precinct (Cidade Nova). However, after police analyzed the case, the vehicle was transferred to the 19th Precinct (Tijuca) as it is a central police station. Both men remained in custody and will be taken to court. The operation, conducted by SEOP and GM, involved 25 officers.
