Seop and GM-Rio carry out 113 rescues and remove 51 vehicles from the roads after rain

Teams from the Public Order Department (Seop) and the Municipal Guard (GM-Rio) worked to clean up the city's streets after heavy rain in the early hours of the morning and throughout Sunday (14/1). Agents made 113 rescues using boats and dump trucks from their vehicles to help people leave their homes safely and also to remove some belongings. In addition, 51 vehicles that were parked on Avenida Brasil (near Irajá) and other parts of the city were removed in the presence of their owners.

– The Public Order Department and the Municipal Guard are fully focused and have dedicated teams working to help with the impacts of the rain, rescuing people, removing vehicles, and also helping to distribute food and mattress donations to the homeless. We will continue to provide logistical support and humanitarian actions to care for the people of Rio and minimize the impacts on the city – highlighted the Public Order Secretary, Brenno Carnevale.

In total, 590 agents were mobilized to act in various regions of the city, paying special attention to areas with pockets of water and fallen trees, diverting traffic and blocking Avenida Brasil, providing support to the population and removing vehicles that had broken down in the middle of the streets. A total of 113 police cars, 47 motorcycles, eight trailers and two trucks were used to assist in the operation. The SEOP teams, in a joint action with the Department of Social Welfare, helped distribute mattresses and water at support points.
