- Seop and Civil Police carry out an operation to demobilize clandestine scrap metal in Praça da Bandeira
All material will be removed from the scrapyard, which will then be demolished - Rio City Hall The Municipal Department of Public Order (Seop), together with the 18th Civil Police Precinct and Comlurb, will decommission an illegal scrapyard located on Avenida Oswaldo Aranha, between the National Institute of Social Security (INSS) building and the National Circus School, in Praça da Bandeira, on Tuesday (17/5). The agents will remove all the material and then schedule a demolition action, as the scrapyard illegally occupies land that belongs to Supervia.
This year, on January 25, SEOP had already carried out an operation on the site and closed down the establishment, which was operating without any authorization from the municipal authorities. At the time, the person responsible for the establishment, Lourival Ferreira de Lima, and his son, Bruno Santos de Lima, were taken to the police station to provide clarifications about suspicious materials found by inspectors. The information was sent to the Civil Police.
– In addition to preventing theft of wires from service providers and the sale of copper without origin, the inspections carried out by SEOP at scrapyards also help identify other illegal situations. This helps investigate and solve crimes, such as in this case, where information about the person responsible for the illegal scrapyard had already been forwarded to the police station, allowing the perpetrators to be quickly identified – highlighted the Secretary of Public Order, Brenno Carnevale.
