The buildings border the tributary of the Cabuçu River, which causes obstruction of the riverbed - Rio City Hall The Public Order Department began, this Wednesday (5/6), the demolition of a house in the masonry phase, two irregular buildings in the foundation phase and six masonry walls, all built illegally, which delimited lots located in clandestine subdivisions located on Estrada Cabuçu de Baixo, in Guaratiba. The buildings, which were being built irregularly and without technical basis, border the tributary of the Cabuçu River, which causes the obstruction and reduction of the river channel.
Those responsible for the works also built, without authorization, areas for pedestrians and vehicles that will be removed by the City Hall, because they could cause risk of erosion, landslides and flooding, in addition to causing damage and losses to their occupants and other residents of the region. In addition, the constructions hinder access and cleaning of the riverbank and channel.
– This is yet another illegal construction demolition operation that we are carrying out to preserve lives, the environment and maintain order in the area. These illegally constructed buildings were close to the river and could cause a serious accident due to the rise in the river water level on rainy days. We have already demolished around 3.500 illegal buildings since 2021 and we will not tolerate this or any other type of illegality – highlighted the Secretary of Public Order, Brenno Carnevale.
The Municipal Guard, Military Police, Rio-Águas Foundation, Rioluz and Comlurb also participate in the operation.
