Seop carries out the demolition of irregular buildings erected on the public sidewalk in Morro do Cruz, in Tijuca

The Municipal Secretariat of Public Order (Seop) is carrying out, this Tuesday (23/9), an urban planning operation in Morro do Cruz, in Tijuca, in the North Zone. The teams are working to demolish six irregular buildings, used for commercial purposes, and erected on the public sidewalk (square) of Rua Tenente Marques de Sousa without any municipal authorization.

The buildings, three of them masonry and three metal modules, occupied approximately 220m² of public space. The owners of a locksmith and another wheeled module received authorization from the Urban Control Coordination (CCU) to remove their structures themselves. The other building owners were authorized to remove their goods before the SEOP work began.

"We are returning this area to the local population. I reiterate that any citizen can obtain permission to conduct their commercial activity in the city of Rio. They just need to do so legally, through Carioca Digital," explained Marcus Belchior, Municipal Secretary of Public Order.

During the operation, technicians from the utility company Light identified and executed six illegal power outages, which supplied all the buildings. Teams from the utility company Águas do Rio also participated in the operation and identified illegal water supply points.

In addition to SEOP and the concessionaires, teams from the Municipal Guard, Military Police, RioLuz, the Greater Tijuca Subprefecture, Comlurb, and other municipal agencies also participated in the operation. The collected material was sent to the SEOP warehouse in Bonsucesso.
