Fundação Parques e Jardins assesses the risk of falling trees in Guinle Park

Inspection at Guinle Park - Disclosure / Rio City Hall Teams from the Parks and Gardens Foundation (FPJ), an agency linked to the Municipal Department of the Environment, carried out a new technical inspection of Guinle Park in Laranjeiras on Monday (27/12) with the aim of producing a preventive survey in response to the flamboyant tree that fell on the site about two weeks ago. The visit was accompanied by professionals from Comlurb, representatives from the Botafogo Local Executive Management and the park's adopter, Claudia Lustosa.
According to FPJ technicians, the inspection was used to establish pruning and removal actions, necessary to prepare the park for summer, a time of heavy rain and strong winds. According to the professionals, a group of flamboyant trees will receive cleaning pruning to remove dry and dead branches, hanging and/or plagued branches. All pruning should observe the balance of the trees, and may be replaced by specific cuts on only a few branches, so that this balance is maintained.
On December 10, one day after a flamboyant tree fell on the playground at Parque Guinle, the FPJ carried out a general inspection of the trees in the area. Of all the species, some were at risk of falling and would have to be removed. Among them were invasive leucaenas and mango trees that had been affected by the disease known as 'mango drought'. The FPJ requested support from Comlurb for the removals.
