- Rio City Hall announces the renovation of Piscinão de Ramos
The Ramos Swimming Pool - Marcelo Piu / Rio City Hall Mayor Eduardo Paes and the president of the Parks and Gardens Foundation, Roberto de Oliveira, presented the project for the renovation of the Ramos Pool, in the North Zone, this Saturday (18/6). With an investment of R$3,3 million, the project includes the creation of three children's playgrounds, the replacement of the synthetic grass on the field, the renovation of the skate park and the installation of a large park. The bathrooms and changing rooms will be renovated and the area around the pool will gain new benches. This will be the largest renovation of the Ramos Carlos de Oliveira Dicró Beach Environmental Park in ten years.
– It is a major renovation in which we will restore some equipment and upgrade others. It is an important democratic space in the city, an achievement of the city's poorest people and a hallmark of Rio de Janeiro – stated Mayor Eduardo Paes.
With a maximum depth of 1,40m, Piscinão de Ramos is a leisure area created in the early 2000s, consisting of an artificial beach around a public saltwater pool. Today, Piscinão de Ramos is one of the symbols of the suburbs of Rio de Janeiro, even serving as a set for television productions.
– We are going to give the area around Piscinão de Ramos a real makeover and improve all the equipment – said Roberto de Oliveira.
The park once received 80 people per day. The lake is supplied with 30 million liters of water from Guanabara Bay, which are pumped daily to the Ramos Water Treatment Plant. The plant's operation is overseen by the Rio-Águas Foundation, and the water quality is monitored.
