- Rio City Hall expands urbanization of Parque Linear Isabel Domingues, in the West Zone
Isabel Domingues Park will gain 50 more kiosks - Beth Santos/City of Rio On Wednesday (August 23), Rio de Janeiro City Hall began expanding the urbanization of the Linear Park on Avenida Isabel Domingues, in Gardênia Azul, in the West Zone of Rio. The 8-square-meter area will receive 14 new standardized commercial kiosks to complement the intervention inaugurated last April, when another 50 kiosks were delivered. Mayor Eduardo Paes and the president of the Parks and Gardens Foundation, Julio Villas Boas, visited the site, which will also receive new landscaping, with planting of grass, shrubs and plant cover. The work also includes the renovation of the children's playground, installation of new tables and benches and implementation of a Senior Citizens' Academy.
– We know that there is unemployment, financial difficulties, poverty and social issues. So, how do we organize the city and, at the same time, deal with these problems? Our goal here is precisely to maintain economic activity, but without letting people do only what they want. If everyone decides to build their business in the middle of the street, imagine what Rio de Janeiro will become – said Mayor Eduardo Paes.
Last April, the region gained 50 standardized commercial kiosks and infrastructure works. Street furniture was also installed, such as game tables and children's toys, and a 700-meter cycle path. Rioluz installed 68 LED lights on the site, in addition to eight LED projectors on the multi-sports court. Thirty-four steel posts were also replaced with safer and more resistant fiberglass models, and 34 meters of new underground cabling were installed.
The first phase of the project also included cleaning and revitalizing the public thoroughfare, which is located in a populated area of Gardênia Azul, where illegal commercial buildings had previously been built, in addition to releasing raw sewage into the avenue's canal. At the time, the area received an investment of approximately R$3 million. The action to consolidate the sustainable use of the space shared by merchants featured the installation of commercial kiosks. To facilitate the arrival and departure of merchants and visitors, a 700-meter bike path was built, which runs the entire length of Avenida Isabel Domingues.
– There was a demand from the community for new kiosks. So we created a new project and are installing 50 more kiosks here, which will serve the community much better. We are also going to work on the canal embankment, with a landscaping project that will make it greener – said the president of the Parks and Gardens Foundation, Julio Villas Boas.
Maravilha Neighborhood in Bonsucesso and Rocha Miranda
Mayor Eduardo Paes, accompanied by the Infrastructure Secretary, Jessick Trairi, and the Deputy Mayor of the North Zone, Diego Vaz, also visited the works in the Maravilha neighborhood in Bonsucesso and Rocha Miranda on Wednesday (23/8). In the revitalization carried out by the program, the streets are being paved and the sidewalks are being rebuilt. The goal is to improve mobility and prevent flooding in the benefited areas. The investments made by the City Hall in these locations exceed R$49,5 million.
The Maravilha Neighborhood project in Bonsucesso foresees the requalification of 18 public spaces, among them the streets Viúva Garcia, Cardoso de Moraes and Teixeira de Castro Avenue. In Rocha Miranda, the program covers 19 streets, among them Pinhara, São Roque and Estrada dos Otavianos.
