Carioca Young Citizen Competition awards students from the Municipal Education Network

The Rio de Janeiro City Attorney's Office and the Municipal Department of Education awarded, this Wednesday (August 9), the 8 33th grade students from the Municipal School System who wrote the winning essays in the Young Citizen of Rio contest. With the theme “9 Years since the Founding of the City of Rio de Janeiro: What City Do I Want to Live in?”, the students received smartphones, medals and diplomas in a ceremony held at the City Palace, in Botafogo.

– I was very impressed with the quality, the ideas, the Portuguese and the development of reasoning of these students. I congratulate our public education system and especially you. Congratulations to everyone – said Attorney General Daniel Bucar during the event.

A student at Escola Amazonas, in Campo Grande, Lunna Freitas was one of the winners of the competition, whose theme was worked on in the classroom over the last few months.

– I thought I wouldn’t be able to do it, it took me a while to write, but with a lot of persistence I managed to finish it. Now I’m sure that we shouldn’t give up on anything. We have to always persist – said the student.

For classmate Ícaro Henrique, participating in the competition was challenging.

– I found it very interesting to think and reflect on the subject. I talked about education, tourist attractions and the natural beauty of the city – said the award-winning student.

The municipal secretary of Education, Renan Ferreirinha, commented on the importance of the project.

– This partnership between the Municipal Department of Education and the City Attorney General’s Office reinforces the City Hall’s commitment to the education of our children and young people. The award recognizes one of the school’s greatest legacies, which is teaching students to write and reflect on their own world with new ideas and solutions.
