The Rio City Hall published in the Official Gazette this Monday (5/6) a decree that pays homage to 12 songs by national rock artists who have made their mark since the 70s. Songs such as “Jardins da Babilônia”, by singer Rita Lee, and “Eduardo e Mônica”, by the group Legião Urbana, will lend their names to streets and alleys in the Barros Filho neighborhood, in the North Zone of Rio.
The new names were given by the City Hall to an area that begins at Sirinhaém Street, near Avenida Brasil. Decree 52.630, signed by Mayor Eduardo Paes, names 64 streets in the region that benefit from the Bairro Maravilha Program and that had temporary names. In addition to the streets named after songs, several prominent personalities in various fields of activity, such as singer Vanusa and volleyball player Isabel, were also honored. The decision follows the deliberation of the Rio de Janeiro Commission for the Naming of Public Streets and Facilities (CCNLEP), of the Municipal Department of Urban Planning.

1. Travessa Jardins da Babilônia – Music by São Paulo singer Rita Lee, composed in partnership with Lee Marcucci, released on the album “Babilônia”, in 1978. It will replace the street previously known as Beco 5 or Beco Dona Maria;
2. Rua Vital e Sua Moto – Music by the Rio de Janeiro group Paralamas do Sucesso, composed by Herbert Vianna, released on the album “Cinema Mudo”, in 1983. It will replace the street previously known as Rua do Sossego;
3. Rua Garota Nacional – Music by the Minas Gerais group Skank, composed by Samuel Rosa and Chico Amaral, released on the album “O Samba Poconé”, in 1996. It will replace the street previously known as Rua da Liberdade;
4. Rua Metamorfose Ambulante – Music composed and recorded by Bahian musician Raul Seixas, released on the album “Krig-Ha, Bandolo”, in 1973. It will replace the street previously known as Rua das Flores;
5. Travessa Grand' Hotel – Music by the Rio de Janeiro group Kid Abelha, composed by Paula Toller, George Israel and Luis Farias, released on the album “Tudo é Permitido”, in 1991. It will replace the street previously known as Travessa 7 or Beco das Flores;
6. Rua Ando Meio Desligado – Music composed and recorded by the São Paulo group Os Mutantes, released on the album “A Divina Comédia ou Ando Meio Desligado”, from 1970. It will replace the street previously known as Rua João Pessoa;
7. Rua Homem Primata – Music composed and recorded by the São Paulo group Titãs, released on the album “Cabeça Dinossauro”, in 1986. It will replace the street previously known as Rua Pedro Porto;
8. Travessa Flores em Você – Music by the São Paulo group Ira!, composed by Edgard Scandurra, released on the album “Vivendo e Não Aprendendo”, from 1986. It will replace the street previously known as Beco da Passagem or Beco Dona Zulmira;
9. Travessa Linda Juventude – Music by the Minas Gerais group 14 Bis, composed by Flávio Venturini and Márcio Borges, released on the album “Além Paraíso”, from 1982. It will replace the street previously known as Travessa Menezes Cortes or Beco Sete Curvas;
10. Travessa Eduardo e Mônica – Music by the Brasilia group Legião Urbana, composed by Renato Russo, released on the album “Dois”, in 1986. It will replace the street previously known as Rua Pedro Porto;
11. Travessa Sangue Latino – Music by the São Paulo group Secos e Molhados, composed by João Ricardo and Paulinho Mendonça, released on the album “Secos e Molhados”, in 1973. It will replace the street previously known as Travessa Boa Vista;
12. Travessa Pro Dia Nascer Feliz – Music by the Rio de Janeiro group Barão Vermelho, composed by Cazuza and Roberto Frejat, released on the album “Barão Vermelho 2”, from 1983. It will replace the street previously known as Beco Boa Vista.
