City Hall pays homage to Jô Soares with the name of an avenue in Vila do Pan

Jô Soares died on August 5th last year, aged 84, in São Paulo - Disclosure Rio de Janeiro City Hall honors TV host, actor, writer and comedian Jô Soares this Friday (3/3) by naming an avenue in Vila do Pan, in Jacarepaguá, after him. The decree, signed by Mayor Eduardo Paes, was published in the city's Official Gazette. The document took into account a law approved by the City Council in November of last year, guaranteeing the honor in a public place in the city.
The 260-meter-long road, previously known as Rua Projetada 4, connects two other avenues in Vila do Pan that pay homage to comedians Agildo Ribeiro and Cláudio Besserman Vianna, known as Bussunda, from Casseta e Planeta. The new avenue is also very close to Curva Chico Anysio.
José Eugênio Soares, or simply Jô, died on August 5th of last year, at the age of 84, in São Paulo. He was a Rio native with many talents. He had a career spanning over 60 years, in which he played the role of television presenter, writer, playwright, theater director, actor, comedian, musician, interviewer and visual artist. He left behind a vast body of work that included over 300 characters, famous programs such as “Viva o Gordo!” and “Jô Soares Onze e Meia”, and catchphrases such as “Bota ponta Telê!” and “Que que eu sou, sois Rei!”.
