The Planetarium is one of 28 public facilities powered by 100% clean energy - Rafael Catarcione / Rio City Hall The Rio Green Energy program, which has already guaranteed savings of over R$ 18 million for the municipality's coffers, has just reached two more milestones: the City's General Archive and the Rio Planetarium have begun operating in the Free Contracting Environment, being fully supplied with 100% clean, renewable energy with international I-REC (Renewable Energy Certificate) certification. Created in 2021, the program has had a direct impact on reducing operational costs and strengthening sustainability actions and the preservation of public assets.
The Green Energy Rio initiative, carried out by the Municipal Secretariat of Administration (SMA), is part of the Energy Efficiency, Transition and Governance Program, which brings together actions aimed at modernizing energy management and expanding the use of renewable sources in municipal administration. With the migration of the Planetarium and the General Archive, there are now 28 municipal public facilities operating with 100% clean energy. And the program continues to expand.
The transition to renewable energy sources aligns the municipality with more efficient and sustainable public management, which reduces costs and generates a positive environmental impact.
