Cargo Mulher Carioca will have an increase for beneficiaries in situations of violence

The Secretariat for Women's Policies and Promotion will increase the value of the Cartão Mulher Carioca in 2023. Starting in January, the benefit paid to citizens in situations of violence and vulnerability will be R$500 per month. The service was launched in early 2022, with credits of R$400.
The financial aid is made available on an emergency basis to help victims escape the cycle of violence. To receive the benefit, you must be a resident of the city of Rio de Janeiro and be served by one of the agencies in the network that combats violence against women in the city. This year, around 400 Cartão Mulher Carioca cards were distributed.
– It is great to be able to continue and increase the benefits of this fundamental policy for the development and emancipation of women in Rio de Janeiro. Violence takes many women out of the job market, which makes it impossible for them to achieve financial independence. Providing this assistance is a response so that they can guarantee their income and, from there, escape this cycle of violence – said Secretary Joyce Trindade.
The Cartão Mulher Carioca is also offered to orphans of feminicide. Children up to 24 years old who were dependents of the victim or who prove they are enrolled in the official education system or who have permanent disability according to a medical report may also apply for the aid. The female guardians or legal representatives of these orphans will be included as a priority in the training courses of the “Mulheres do Rio” program or in other public policies and projects of the secretariat.
The Women's Secretariat also provides public transportation cards for victims of domestic violence, the Move-Mulher program. Each card has a value of R$24,30 for up to six bus tickets. More than 2.500 units have already been distributed.
The Women's Secretariat has nine service facilities in Rio de Janeiro, which are three Casas da Mulher Carioca; CEAM Chiquinha Gonzaga, an exclusive service location for women in situations of domestic violence; three specialized service centers for those in situations of violence; a Specialized Psychotherapeutic Service Center; and Casa Viva Mulher Cora Coralina, which is a confidential shelter for women at imminent risk of death.
