- Providência massage therapists will have tax exemptions to work on Rio’s waterfront
Massage therapy at the Women in Sports event - Talita Nascimento / Rio City Hall The Rio de Janeiro City Hall has announced a pilot project to encourage female massage therapists to work on the city's waterfront. The professionals who are part of the social organization Saia Empoderada, from Providência, will be exempt from fees to work on the city's waterfront for one year, while the City Hall studies the location of workstations for them.
Initially, 100 women will receive the benefit to work on the coast of the city's South Zone. The action is being carried out by the Secretariat for Women's Policies and Promotion in partnership with the Municipal Secretariat for Sports.
This weekend, the two departments also carried out awareness-raising activities on violence against women with the expansion of the “Rio + Safe for Women” campaign, which also has the partnership of CET-Rio, Metrô Rio and Concessionária Lamsa to publicize the project's website on traffic signs and in Metro stations.
Students from different sports received t-shirts with information about the website and were able to learn more about the types of violence against women that exist in Brazil and where to report it. The women had free boxing, beach tennis, altinha, footvolley, and spinning classes and were able to relax at the end with the masseuses from the Saia Empoderada project.
