Women in vulnerable situations assisted by the Special Secretariat for Women's Policies and Promotion (SPM-Rio) received 900 basic food baskets this Thursday (23/12). The donation was made by writer and activist Michele Pin, who created the campaign “Christmas without hunger and without domestic violence” to raise funds to buy basic food baskets for this group of women. The deliveries were made at the Casas da Mulher Carioca Tia Doca, in Madureira, and Dinah Coutinho, in Realengo. This year, the Secretariat for Women assisted more than 23 thousand women in situations of violence and vulnerability.

– Campaigns like this are very necessary for our women. So, you can expect other mobilizations from Help Mulher, a seal we created to help women who are victims of domestic violence. As a survivor of this violence, I experienced the importance of support and support for the beginning of my emotional and financial autonomy. I reinterpreted my pain by helping other women and today I can guarantee: there is life after domestic violence and I am living proof of that – said Michele.

According to the secretary of SPM-Rio, Joyce Trindade, part of the baskets will be delivered to women assisted at CEAM Chiquinha Gonzaga and Abrigo Sigiloso.

– It is very important that we also provide support to other institutions that are part of the network to combat violence and, in this way, guarantee basic conditions so that women in situations of violence can begin to break the cycle of violence. Often, it continues due to the financial dependence of these women – highlighted the secretary.
