The Rio de Janeiro City Hall, in partnership with Google, through the Special Secretariat for Women's Policies and Promotion, has opened registration for 20 free spots for Google Professional Certificates starting June 20. The company has donated 12 scholarships to the initiative, with spots to be filled immediately based on a selection process organized by the city. The City Hall will fill the remaining 8 spots as the first classes complete the courses.
To date, the course portfolio includes seven professional training courses in the following areas: Google Artificial Intelligence Fundamentals, Cybersecurity, IT Support, Data Analysis, Project Management, User Experience Design, and Digital Marketing and E-commerce.
Classes are 100% online through the Coursera platform, with a workload that varies between 140 and 200 hours, which can reach a total duration of approximately 5 months. Registrations must be made through Internet. To participate, you must be 16 years of age or older and be a resident of the city of Rio de Janeiro. The partnership between the Secretariat for Women and Google is taking place within the scope of the Mulheres do Rio program and the Rio Capital initiatives of the G20.
For the municipal secretary of the Civil House, Lucas Padilha, inserting women into the technology market is promoting the city of Rio and investing in the future of the people of Rio.
– With this partnership, we make it clear that new technologies can also reduce inequalities. By investing in the technological training of women in Rio, we are positioning Rio for the job market of the future and changing the lives of thousands of families.
According to the Secretary for Women, Lidiane de Paula, it is every woman's right to have access to opportunities.
– Providing access to opportunities for women means building a dignified and fair present and future for all. The partnership with Google reinforces our commitment to promoting women in the city of Rio, strengthening access to the job market and female autonomy.
To celebrate the partnership with the City Hall, Google's General Director of Global Business for Artificial Intelligence and Applied Engineering, Carolina Yap, was in Rio. She visited the facilities and learned about the technology used at the Rio Operations Center (COR), with Secretary Lidiane de Paula, where they made the initiative for the training courses official.
Juliana Moura Bueno, Government Relations and Public Policy Manager at Google Brazil, explained the importance of this partnership in generating opportunities.
– Google is committed to Brazil and has been working for almost two decades to develop and support initiatives that seek to create more opportunities for women in the country, especially in the areas of technology and innovation. The donation of these Google Professional Certificate scholarships will continue to strengthen the trajectories of women in Rio. This initiative, in partnership with the City of Rio de Janeiro, aims to create more opportunities and leave a legacy for the city of Rio, host of the G20 in 2024.
Professional advancement after new qualification
Google's professional courses aim to train people in skills and professions that are in high demand, even without prior experience. Between 2020 and 2022, 88% of Google-certified professionals reported some type of professional advancement, such as a promotion, salary increase or a new job, resulting from the new qualification obtained.
The Special Secretariat for Women's Policies and Promotion works on policies to promote women in Rio de Janeiro, aiming at their insertion in the job market, promoting access to income and economic autonomy. Since 2021, more than 200 thousand women have been trained for the job market.
