Women's Secretariat invested more than R$80 thousand in the purchase of the second batch of the Move-Mulher card

The Secretariat for Women's Policies and Promotion requested the purchase of more than 2.500 Move-Mulher travel cards to help women in the city of Rio de Janeiro escape the cycle of domestic violence and vulnerability. To date, approximately R$65 has been invested in cards for 1.950 women in situations of domestic violence. Now, another R$80 will be invested, totaling R$145 in less than a year of the program's operation.

The Rio City Hall policy was created by decree no. 49.363 of August 30, 2021. With Move-Mulher, women can travel around the city to service locations in the violence-fighting network, such as CEAM Chiquinha Gonzaga, Casas da Mulher Carioca, the Public Defender's Office, the Court of Justice and Women's Police Stations.

For the Secretary for Women, Joyce Trindade, the card created in the first year of her administration is an important step towards women's independence and also towards policies to combat violence.

– In less than a year, there will be more than 4 Move-Mulher cards. We are ensuring that women in situations of violence can have free access to public transportation and move around the city – he highlighted.

Users receive a card worth R$24,30 (equivalent to six bus tickets). Up to three cards may be issued per user to ensure continued care and support in the support network. In addition to Move-Mulher, the department also provides the Cartão Mulher Carioca, a financial aid worth R$400 for women who are in the same situation of domestic violence and economic vulnerability.

Children of women who are victims of feminicide can also receive the Cartão Mulher Carioca – Órfãos do Feminicídio (Carioca Women’s Card – Orphans of Feminicide). None of the cards come with any identification to protect users.
