Procon Carioca intensifies inspections in the week leading up to Christmas and discards products unfit for consumption

Procon Carioca, a department of the Rio City Hall, carried out an inspection operation in Barra da Tijuca, in the West Zone, on Wednesday (18/12), focusing on products typical of Christmas dinners. The supermarkets Guanabara, Supermarket and Prezunic, which had products unfit for consumption, were notified by the agency. After receiving the notification, the establishments must provide proven clarifications to Procon Carioca on issues such as expiration dates and product storage and conservation processes.

During the operation, 14,340 kg of food, including cod and pork, which did not comply with consumer standards, were discarded. Agents identified products with damaged packaging and inadequate storage. No violations were identified at the Pão de Açúcar and Zona Sul supermarkets on Avenida das Américas during the inspection.

– In this period leading up to the end-of-year festivities, our priority is to ensure the health and safety of consumers, especially in relation to the products most sought after for consumption during these festive occasions. We are intensifying inspections to prevent unsuitable products from reaching the tables of Rio residents – stated the executive director of Procon Carioca, Renata Ruback.
