Procon Carioca launches Operation Fair Price on the Beach to combat abusive prices on Rio's coastline.

The Municipal Secretariat for Consumer Protection and Defense, through Procon Carioca, launched Operation Fair Price on the Beach this Thursday (January 15th), a task force to intensify inspections and combat abusive prices at kiosks and stalls along the entire coastline of Rio de Janeiro. The operation aims to curb abusive practices that harm consumers, such as excessive prices, minimum consumption charges, tied selling, and misleading advertising, ensuring transparency in consumer relations and compliance with the Consumer Protection Code, especially during the summer, a period marked by a significant increase in residents and tourists on Rio's beaches.

In addition to its oversight role, the action is also aimed at providing direct guidance to consumers and beachgoers. Teams from Procon Carioca will be in the field to clarify rights, warn about illegal practices, and encourage the immediate reporting of irregularities.

Operation Fair Price on the Beach is part of a broader study that aims to map commercial practices on the coastline, standardize conduct, guarantee fair prices, and support public policies focused on organizing, ensuring transparency, and balancing the consumer environment on Rio's beaches.

As a new feature, Procon Carioca is launching a direct service channel via WhatsApp during this operation, allowing complaints to be made in real time, directly from the beach. Consumers can register incidents by calling (21) 96608-0664, which contributes to faster responses and more effective actions by the inspection teams.

Stalls and kiosks caught committing irregularities may be notified, fined, and even lose their operating license, depending on the severity of the infraction.
