Starting this Thursday (22/02), Rio will host the 2024 Diaspora Festival, which will bring together more than 200 participants from North American and Rio de Janeiro cities. Among the guests are five mayors from the United States and representatives from 20 cities in the state of Rio, signatories of the Pact to Combat Racism and members of the Global Network of Anti-Racist Cities, chaired by the Rio de Janeiro City Hall.

The event, which will discuss public policies to combat racism and promote racial equality in the Americas, will be held at the Sheraton Hotel and is supported by the City Hall, through the Coordinators for the Promotion of Racial Equality and the Special Coordinators for International Relations and Cooperation. The closing ceremony will take place on Sunday (25/02), at the City Palace.

On Friday (23/02), the City Hall will participate in the festival in two moments, with the presentation of the theme “Public policies in the fight against racism” and in the panel “Making politics work in the Americas”, which will feature the Secretariat for the Promotion of Women.

The festival's missions include promoting gender equality and women's empowerment, inclusive and sustainable economic development, and bringing together people from diverse cultural backgrounds. The event also includes an award for innovative projects aimed at transforming diasporic communities.
