City Hall opens selection process for veterinary units of the Health Surveillance

The Rio de Janeiro City Hall, through the Sub-Secretariat of Health Surveillance and Zoonosis Control of the Municipal Health Department, opened, this Thursday (24/09), the selection process for hiring five veterinarians for the department's two veterinary care units. There are three vacancies for the Jorge Vaitsman Veterinary Medicine Institute, in São Cristóvão, and two for the Paulo Dacorso Filho Zoonosis Control Center, in Santa Cruz.

Veterinarians with a focus on radiology, ultrasound and echocardiography in companion animals will be selected. Applications are open until Sunday (27/09) and must be submitted via an online form: https://bit.ly/32ZwxOA.

The vacancies are divided as follows:

For the IJV:

• 2 vacancies for veterinarian (radiology and ultrasound in domestic animals)
• 1 vacancy for veterinarian (echocardiogram in domestic animals).

For the CCZ:

• 1 vacancy for veterinarian (radiology and ultrasound for domestic animals);
• 1 vacancy for veterinarian (echocardiogram in domestic animals).

The candidate may apply for one of the vacancies in one of the units. After correctly filling out the online application form, the applicant will have his/her name published in the Official Gazette of the Municipality, with the corresponding grade, and will be called to present the documents. The contracts are valid for one year and may be extended once for the same period. The call for applications and the results of the selection process will be published in Official Gazette of the Municipality.

It is important to highlight that, as defined by the Ministry of Health, applications from professionals aged 60 and over or who have health conditions included in the groups at increased risk due to the incidence of Covid-19 will not be accepted.

About the Jorge Vaitsman Municipal Institute of Veterinary Medicine

Founded in 1917, the Jorge Vaitsman Institute was created to control tuberculosis in cattle and to provide veterinary medical care to draft donkeys used in public services, such as garbage collection. In 1977, the idea came to honor the former head of the Rabies Diagnostic Laboratory, veterinarian Jorge Vaitsman. Among the services provided by the unit are the adoption of dogs and cats; observation of aggressive animals; burial and cremation of small animals; medical and surgical clinical care and free castration of dogs and cats; laboratory tests; pathological anatomy; radiology and diagnosis of zoonoses; analysis of water and food; and human serology for rabies.

About the Paulo Dacorso Filho Zoonosis Control Center

Created in 1988, the CCZ operates throughout the city of Rio de Janeiro, meeting the demands requested by Central 1746 and also those coming from other agencies, whether municipal, state or federal. It is responsible for the surveillance, prevention and control of zoonoses and accidents caused by venomous and poisonous animals, which are relevant to public health. The unit located in Santa Cruz offers assistance in all situations involving animals, including the emergency removal of horses, cattle, pigs and goats from public roads. The services also include inspection; adoption, chipping and general registration; clinical care for cases of sporotrichosis in dogs and cats; observation of aggressive animals; surgical castration; and anti-rabies vaccination.
