Rio City Hall inspects 33 establishments in nighttime actions against crowds this weekend

The Rio City Hall, through the Municipal Department of Public Order (Seop), inspected 33 establishments (bars, nightclubs and party venues) in joint actions against crowds over the last four days. On the evening of this Sunday, the 30th, two establishments were closed in Bangu and Campo Grande, in the West Zone, for failing to comply with the City Hall's rules for dealing with the Covid-19 pandemic, totaling six closures since Thursday (27). At the locations, the agents found event programming with live music, lack of social distancing, employees without masks and lack of hand sanitizer. In total, 28 fines were issued for various health irregularities and tax regulations, and 20 traffic violations were recorded, with one vehicle towed for illegal parking.

With the participation of municipal guards and inspectors from the Sub-Secretariat of Health Surveillance and the Municipal Finance Department, the task force passed, from Thursday to Sunday, through 14 neighborhoods in the North and West zones: Ilha do Governador, Vila da Penha, Vila Valqueire, Freguesia, Madureira, Bangu, Campo Grande, Paciência, Itanhangá, Barra da Tijuca, Curicica, Anil, Méier and Ilha de Guaratiba.

On Sunday, a rave that was taking place at Espaço Verde Vila Festas e Eventos, on Guaratiba Island, in the West Zone, was shut down. With the support of the Military Police, the operation removed around 150 people who were at the location. In the early hours of Saturday, two other establishments were closed down, in Barra da Tijuca and Anil, by agents from Seop and the Municipal Finance Department for not having authorization to operate. Early in the evening, the “O pai tá on” party – scheduled to take place in a space with a soccer field and swimming pool in Méier – was shut down by City Hall teams and fined by technicians from the Health Surveillance Agency.

Planning – Joint actions are planned based on reports to Central 1746 (the City Hall’s citizen service channel) and intelligence reports from the Sub-Secretariat of Operations (Subop) of the SEOP, which identifies events publicized on social media. The inspections are carried out by personnel from the Municipal Guard; the Sub-Secretariat of Health Surveillance (from the Municipal Health Department); the Licensing and Inspection (CLF) and Urban Control (CCU) Coordinators of the Municipal Finance Department; the Parking and Towing Inspection Coordination of the SEOP; and the Military Police.

Prohibited events – The Undersecretariat of Health Surveillance reinforces that social events are not yet authorized in the city of Rio, following the decision of the city’s Scientific Committee. Therefore, the issuance of the Health License for Transitory Activities (LSAT) for events remains suspended.

According to the Undersecretariat of Licensing, Inspection and Urban Control, of the Treasury, any attempt to hold an event without authorization may result in the closure of the establishment, a fine of R$891,59 and the beginning of procedures to revoke the license.
