More than 400 tons of waste were removed from the Rocinha Canal between January and May of this year alone. The collected waste includes items such as plastic bottles, plastic bags, other household garbage, and silted material. This volume represents more than 50 truckloads of trash and sediment that could impede the flow of rainwater and cause flooding in the community. The Rio-Águas Foundation maintains permanent cleaning teams in the community, carrying out various actions throughout the year to benefit the canal. These figures also highlight the importance of everyone's cooperation in keeping the canal cleaner and preventing flooding.

Rocinha has six Comlurb recycling points for the proper disposal of waste.

Comlurb has installed six recycling points in Rocinha. Each one receives approximately 60 tons of waste per day. In this way, around 360 tons of waste per day are prevented from being improperly disposed of. They are located in the areas known as Beco 199, Rua 1, Umuarama, Valão, Vila Verde, and on Estrada da Gávea, near number 486.

There are already 112 recycling points spread throughout the city, representing a historic advance in Rio's environmental policy. Thanks to them and the installation of more than 15 high-capacity containers across the city, Comlurb (the city's waste management company) has already recorded 28% less litter thrown on the streets, equivalent to about 2.200 tons of waste per day that now have the correct destination.

Any citizen can find the nearest recycling point to their home. on the Comlurb website.
