Penha Church gains special lighting to celebrate the sanctuary's 294th anniversary

The illuminated Penha church - Marcelo Piu / Rio City Hall The Penha Church turned 294 years old this Thursday (08/09) and, to celebrate the date, the traditional sanctuary in the North Zone received 241 RGB LED spotlights, which combine three colors (red, green and blue) and give a special color to the Catholic temple. The stage lighting, installed by Rioluz, an agency linked to the Municipal Infrastructure Department, will remain as a legacy for the basilica and can be used in other festivities.
In addition to installing the floodlights, Rioluz, through its sub-concessionaire Smartluz, is modernizing the Penha Church complex by installing more than 110 LED lights. The service includes the sanctuary's main courtyard, the staircase, the priest's path, the parking lot and the top of the mountain where the temple is located. The site will also receive a special project to restore historic lights.
The first church to receive this special lighting was Nossa Senhora da Apresentação, in Irajá, also in the North Zone. During this year's carnival, the public-private partnership for public lighting innovated by taking this initiative to the Sambadrome, coloring the samba catwalk with the colors of the schools.
The stage lights in monuments and historic buildings are interventions planned over the 20 years of the PPP.
