The Penha Complex, in the North Zone of Rio, has been completely modernized with LED lighting from the Luz Maravilha program, run by the City of Rio. The revitalization of the region was delivered to residents on Tuesday (100/08) by RioLuz. In the community, one of the 03 that benefited from the improvement in public lighting, 13 sodium vapor lamps were replaced with lamps with LED technology.

– Complexo da Penha is a highly populated area, with around 100 inhabitants, and with the new lighting, residents will be able to move around with greater peace of mind, comfort and safety. In addition, kids who want to play soccer until late can now enjoy illuminated sports courts – says RioLuz president Pierre Batista.

The places that received the revitalization of the light points were: Morro da Fé (188 points), Morro da Paz (132 points), Morro Sereno (263 points), Morro Caixa D'água (417 points), Morro Caracol (136 points), Morro Cascatinha (327 points), Morro Quatro Bicas (126 points), Morro P. Proletário da Penha (639 points), Morro Merendiba (262 points), Morro Chatuba (578 points), Vila Cruzeiro (473 points), Community of Grotão (228 points) and Vacaria (24 points).

Important points such as sports courts and squares in the Penha Complex also received new lighting, such as the Ordem e Progresso field, the Church court (Lajão), the Sem Nome square (Rua Crato) and the Santa Rosália square (Bernardo de Vasconcelos Municipal School). A total of 112 points were modernized with LED.

In addition to this large complex, RioLuz has already modernized other communities in Rio. In the North Zone, the first to be completed by Luz Maravilha was Complexo do Alemão (5.283 points), in the Leopoldina region. Next in line are the Salgueiro (122 points) and Macacos (635 points) hills and Complexo do Andaraí (562 points), all in the greater Tijuca region. The Turano Complex in Rio Comprido (241 points) has also received the program. Complexo da Maré is another important community that is receiving lighting intervention and will be completed in a few months.

In the West Zone, RioLuz has already modernized several light points in communities in Vargem Grande (149 points), Vila do Céu, in Cosmos (409 points) and Vila City, in Magalhães Bastos (134 points). In the South Zone, Pavão-Pavãozinho (206 points), in Copacabana, also received the replacement of light points and, in Vidigal, the program is in the final stages.

This month, the Luz Maravilha program surpassed the mark of 225 thousand light points installed throughout the city. In addition to revitalizing public spaces and making streets brighter and safer, the initiative generates savings of more than 100 million reais for the public coffers. With this number, the program surpasses half of the initial goal established by the Public Private Partnership (PPP) of the City of Rio, which foresees the modernization of the entire public lighting system, with the replacement of the city's 450 thousand light points with LEDs.
