City Hall takes the Luz Maravilha program to São Cristóvão

At a meeting at the São Cristóvão Community Council on Saturday morning (08/05), Mayor Eduardo Paes and Rioluz President Bruno Bonetti announced that the Imperial Neighborhood will receive the Luz Maravilha program. In this first phase, 249 new LED lights will be installed, covering more than 10 streets and Quinta da Boa Vista.

– We are starting the implementation of the program today. In 90 days, night will turn into day here in São Cristóvão, bringing more security, as well as a feeling of care and preservation – said the mayor.

Paes received a list of requests for improvements to be made in São Critstóvão, delivered by the president of the Community Chamber, Maurício Mendes. The mayor said he will meet the main demands, recalling that in his first two terms he built family clinics in the neighborhood and implemented the Morar Carioca program in the communities of Arará and Barreira do Vasco.

The Luz Maravilha program is an initiative of the City of Rio, through the Infrastructure Department and Rioluz, which was made possible by a Public-Private Partnership (PPP), with the objective of modernizing and making the city's entire public lighting system more efficient. The program also includes the modernization of Rioluz streetlights, which account for 15% of the city's existing streetlights.

– Luz Maravilha will enhance this important region of the city that has Quinta da Boa Vista and great restaurants – says Bonetti.

The partnership also includes the implementation of services within the Smart City concept, with the installation of 10 security cameras, 40% of which will feature facial recognition technology; 5.000 Wi-Fi points; 4.000 solid waste sensors in manholes; and 6.000 traffic signal sensors, which will improve traffic flow.

Also present at the meeting were the municipal secretaries of Finance and Planning, Pedro Paulo; of Government and Public Integrity, Marcelo Calero; and of Urban Planning, Washington Fajardo, in addition to the deputy mayor of the Center, Leonardo Pavão.
