Carnival 2022: City Hall visits school sheds in Cidade do Samba

Mayor Eduardo Paes visited the schools' warehouses in Cidade do Samba, in Gamboa, on the morning of this Saturday (16/4) and saw a little of what the carnival artists have prepared for Carnival 2022. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, this year's party was restricted to the parades on Marquês de Sapucaí and Intendente Magalhães, in addition to the attractions at Terreirão do Samba. While the parades were transferred to the Tiradentes holiday, next week, the street Carnival was canceled.

 

– It’s great that we can visit the City of Samba again, after a time when Carnival suffered a lot. It’s great to see Carnival coming back strong, starting next Wednesday, with the Access Group and then with the Special Group. It’s a beautiful party. My advice to Brazilians is: Rio Carnival is unmissable, come to the city to celebrate – said Eduardo Paes.

 

Accompanied by the presidents of Riotur, André Duarte, and Liesa, Jorge Perlingeiro, the mayor visited the 14 warehouses in the City of Samba: 12 from the Special Group schools and two from the Access Group. The mayor of Rio began the tour at Viradouro, the current champion of the Special Group, and then went on to União da Ilha, Paraíso do Tuiuti, Grande Rio, Vila Isabel, Portela, Estácio de Sá, Salgueiro, São Clemente, Mocidade, Beija-Flor, Unidos da Tijuca, Mangueira and Imperatriz Leopoldinense.

 

– I missed it a lot, I love Carnival. It is a celebration that represents a lot of who we are as a city and as a country. Carnival shows the world a happy people, who are free from prejudice. It is a celebration that stands out for its diversity, religious tolerance, several schools with African-based themes, which is very good. We have to be tolerant of those who think differently, who have other faiths – said the mayor of Rio.

 

This year, there will be six days of parades at the Sambadrome. On Wednesday (20/4) and Thursday (21/4), the Série Ouro parades will take place, organized by Liga RJ. On Friday (22/4) and Saturday (23/4), the schools from the Liesa Special Group will parade. On Sunday (24/4), it will be the turn of the children's parades. The counting will take place on Tuesday (26/4), at Apoteose. On Saturday (30/4), the six best-placed schools from the Special Group will parade again.
