  • City Hall presents the new features for Rio New Year's Eve 2025
Fireworks in Copacabana - Gabriel Monteiro / Riotur

Rio City Hall presented, on the morning of this Friday (22/11), the news for Rio New Year's Eve 2025. At the press conference at the City Palace, in Botafogo, Mayor Eduardo Paes, Riotur president Patrick Corrêa, and SRCOM's vice president of Creation, Abel Gomes, announced that this edition will have three stages in Copacabana: the Leme stage is back, with the debut of gospel music at the event, in addition to the Rio Stage (main stage, which will be mostly LED) and the Samba Stage (in the shape of a tambourine).

The New Year's Eve project also has a very attractive new feature for sponsors: the creation of the Rio Réveillon platform, which allows brands to be present at the biggest New Year's Eve in the world for three consecutive years, telling stories and providing much more complete experiences to the public.

The countdown features a laser show, a true ballet of lights never seen before, distributed across 20 sound towers in Copacabana. The long-awaited fireworks display will feature 12 minutes of a true pyromusic spectacle, created by Daniel Lopes.

The City of Rio, Riotur and SRCOM are once again working together to promote the world's largest open-air spectacle. This long-standing partnership brings, year after year, not only a record-breaking celebration, but a party that provides excitement, innovation and lots of art for the locals and tourists who choose the marvelous city as their destination. The tradition is so great that Rio New Year's Eve is already a globally renowned brand, just like Carnival, Christ the Redeemer or Maracanã.

– We are offering 13 stages spread throughout the city to the people of Rio, and for our visitors, Copacabana is always the highlight. A line-up of high-quality artists and different rhythms. We have already told the people of Rio to start organizing themselves, and anyone who wants to spend New Year's Eve in Rio will be very welcome. Once again, we will do something structured, welcome everyone and be safe. Rio, once again, shows that it has the biggest New Year's Eve in the world – stated Mayor Eduardo Paes, emphasizing that the inclusion of gospel music is because the City Hall wants everyone to visit Copacabana on New Year's Eve.

What's new in this edition

To mark this special year, the public can expect a series of new features, starting with the stages. There will be 13 spread throughout the city, with highlights including the return of the Palco Leme and the debut of two new stages – Parque Oeste (Inhoaíba) and Parque Realengo, two recently opened spaces with high quality standards.

The fireworks display will be held at various points in the city: Copacabana, with 10 rafts; Flamengo with 3 rafts; and Penha, with fireworks at the Penha Church. In Barra da Tijuca, there will be fireworks at 12 points spread along the coast, in an initiative by the private sector in partnership with Riotur.

– Our expectations are very high. We want to surpass last year, both in terms of hotel occupancy and economic activity in the tourism industry, but also in terms of public movement. Last year, we had 5 million people on all stages in the city and now we want to surpass that. Today, Rio New Year’s Eve is a hallmark of the city, just like Carnival. It’s another attraction. We had a golden year in 2024, with major events. Rio is consolidating itself as the capital of major events – said Riotur president Patrick Corrêa.

SRCOM is one of the country's leading live marketing agencies and is leading the world's largest open-air New Year's Eve celebration for the 17th consecutive year. Having won the competition for the next three years, the company founded by executive Sheila Roza continues to make history, which merges with that of the city of Rio de Janeiro itself.

For Abel Gomes, one of the most prestigious set designers in the world, partner and vice president of creation at SRCOM, it is necessary to always innovate. And this year, he also highlights the many attractions and highlights the moment before the fireworks display. As soon as the soundtrack created by Daniel Lopes starts playing, an unprecedented light show will illuminate Copacabana. In each of the 20 sound towers positioned on the Orla, there will be a ballet of lasers inviting the future in this dance of lights that precedes the countdown to 2025 and the opening of the fireworks show. The ballet of lights will now be the pyrotechnics in the sky, for 12 minutes.

– The pyromusic display was an addition we made in recent years, always improving it. We are treating the fireworks display with great care. The ten-second moment before the New Year is very important for human beings. So, this year we are going to improve these pyromusic displays even more. And the stages in the parks are set up precisely to spread all this joy throughout the entire city – declared Abel Gomes.

The fireworks show, which will take place in Copacabana, Flamengo and Penha, will, as in all previous years, comply with current safety and noise decibel standards. Abel also celebrates the attractions that have already been confirmed, which indicates that the event will have one of the largest line-ups of all time.

Soundtrack

Musician Daniel Lopes will be responsible for the soundtrack of Rio's New Year's Eve for the sixth consecutive year. And the arrival of 2025 can expect a celebration of Brazilian sounds. Daniel is responsible for the new soundtrack that will pay homage to Brazilian and international hits with a look at the country's rhythms full of percussion. All of this will feature the participation of musicians from all regions of Brazil.

New Year's Eve Show

The party on the Copacabana stages will be broadcast live nationwide by Globo, the Multishow channel and Globoplay, right after the soap opera Mania de Você. Through the broadcast of the shows and an exclusive studio, there will be integration between the channels and their profiles on social networks, making Virada, once again, the country's official party.

Accessibility

Rio New Year's Eve 2025 will have an accessible structure so that everyone can enjoy the party on the three stages in Copacabana. An exclusive area for people with disabilities (PCD) has been set up, as well as adapted bathrooms. And in each special area designated for people with disabilities and autism, sound mufflers will be distributed.

Sustainability

Rio New Year's Eve 2025 is not the biggest in the world for nothing. In this year's edition, the event embraces sustainability, inspiring a new way to celebrate the turn of the year. Guided by the ESG pillars – Environmental, Social and Governance – the event combines responsibility and innovation to think about the present and plan for the future.

In the environmental field, actions such as waste management, clean scenography and carbon offsetting are combined with environmental education, showing that every detail matters. In the social sphere, everyone's safety takes center stage. And in governance, diversity, transparency and careful monitoring ensure that the positive impact goes far beyond the party.
