City Hall cancels events on the waterfront
Published on 17/12/2020 - 12:51 | UpdatedThe City of Rio, through Riotur, announces that private New Year's Eve parties at kiosks along the city's waterfront have been canceled. Therefore, no playpens, shows or any event with ticket charges will be allowed along the waterfront, whether on the sand or the boardwalk.
“The preservation of life is what matters most at this time and, therefore, we understand and respect the decision of the Rio City Hall not to authorize the holding of larger events in a few establishments”, declared the president of Orla Rio João Marcello, who met with the president of Riotur this morning.
“This measure is essential and follows the decision made regarding the city’s official New Year’s Eve celebration. We are moving towards a socially responsible New Year’s Eve celebration,” said Riotur acting president Fabricio Villa Flor.
“Now is a time for increased attention to protecting people. We deeply regret the lives that have been lost, and we hope to safeguard many others, and we also urge people to take health precautions wherever they are at the turn of the year. May 2021 be a year of overcoming, with the strength of God,” said Mayor Marcelo Crivella.
