Independent Youth of Padre Miguel, Paraíso do Tuiuti, Academics of Grande Rio and Portela closed the three days of parades of the Special Group at Marquês de Sapucaí!

Mocidade proposed a journey through time to reflect on the future of humanity. Tuiuti told the story of Xica Manicongo, considered the first transvestite in Brazil. The school had to speed up the parade and left the avenue at the exact 80th minute. The opening float had problems maneuvering at the entrance to Sapucaí, causing great harm to its progress and harmony, with many holes.

Grande Rio spoke about the culture of Pará to tell a story of enchantment and faith, marked by the farewell of its drum queen Paolla Oliveira. Portela closed the night by paying tribute and thrilling one of the greatest artists in Brazilian music, singer Milton Nascimento. The parade started in the Rio de Janeiro suburb of Oswaldo Cruz, where the school was born, and headed towards Três Pontas (MG), where the composer was raised. To end the night at Sapucaí, there was Moacyr Luz and Samba do Trabalhador.

On the last night of the Série Prata parades, at Intendente Magalhães, the city's biggest popular carnival, 10 more schools performed and made the competition for a spot at Sapucaí even more intense.

At Terreirão do Samba, Carnival Tuesday was packed with shows by Dilsinho, Suel, Pagode do Adame, Matheus Santos and DJ from FM O Dia, bringing lots of samba and pagode to the public.

In addition to the official stages of the festivities, the block party, which has been coloring the streets since the pre-Carnival weeks, continues in full swing, taking over the city. 54 blocks this Tuesday.

Carnival Tuesday was highlighted by Fervo da Lud, a mega-block of singer Ludmilla, which attracted 750 thousand people to Primeiro de Março. In addition, Orquestra Voadora rocked Aterro do Flamengo, Clube do Samba with Diogo Nogueira brought lots of music and joy to Copacabana beachfront and the traditional Vagalume, O Verde, celebrated at Jardim Botânico.

Are 243 blocks until Ash Wednesday. And others 38 on the weekend after carnival.

In the city center, the traditional Cinelândia dance and the parade of the embalo and enredo blocks complete the program. So it's time to choose your party, put on your best costume and enjoy the festivities!

PUBLIC ORDER AND MUNICIPAL GUARD

On the last night of parades in Sapucaí, GM agents apply 135 fines for illegal parking

Two theft suspects were arrested during a block parade in Praça Tiradentes

On Tuesday, March 04, the Secretariat of Public Order (SEOP) and the Rio Municipal Guard (GM-Rio) carried out actions to organize, inspect and control traffic throughout the city, focusing on the South and Central zones — regions that concentrate the largest number of street blocks — in addition to the Sambadrome, to ensure compliance with the rules during the samba school parades.

During the operations, SEOP agents seized hundreds of irregular products, such as various drinks and glass bottles, the sale of which is prohibited for safety reasons, electronic cigarettes, large structures and sharp objects.

During traffic inspections, 144 citations were issued, in addition to 39 removals and 135 fines for illegal parking.

During taxi inspections, officers issued 106 fines for various infractions and sealed off one vehicle for irregular charging “at gunpoint”.

Municipal Guard Incidents

During a preventive patrol by GM-Rio during the “Enxota que eu Vou” block parade, in Praça Tiradentes, on Tuesday (4/03), guards from the Mobile Tactical Group (GTM) and Special Operations Group (GOE) took two suspects of theft to the police station after a complaint from a partygoer, who was the victim of the crime.

The suspects were in a group of about 20 people, who reacted to the guards' approach by throwing stones and using iron bars. The officers used less offensive instruments to contain the disturbance and took the suspects to the 5th Police Precinct (Centro). Two cell phones and R$100,00 were seized from them.

Later, municipal guards from the Maria da Penha Patrol detained a woman at the Sambadrome for biting people in a VIP area in sector five. The team was called by a security guard at the location. The woman showed signs of drunkenness and resisted the approach, even trying to bite the GMs themselves. At this time, the incident is still being registered at the police station.

This was the third arrest made by the teams from the Maria da Penha Patrol of GM-Rio at the Sambadrome. The other cases were cases of violence against women, on Friday (28/02) and on Monday, the 02nd.

The Ronda Maria da Penha teams are working both at the Sambadrome and in the parades of the large blocks to prevent flagrant cases of violence against women and also to raise awareness and prevent this type of violence during the festivities.

Partial balance of the carnival

Over the course of Carnival (February 28 to March 02), more than two thousand irregular items were seized, including various beverages and glass bottles, the sale of which is prohibited for safety reasons. In addition, objects and structures were seized, such as cargo carts and a tricycle. Two street vendors' credentials and vests were seized because they were being used improperly by unauthorized third parties.

Traffic control

Between Friday and Tuesday, SEOP and GM-Rio agents issued around 1.800 fines for various infractions. During the inspection of irregular parking, 272 vehicles were removed and 826 citations were issued.

HEALTH

SMS stations serve 545 people on the fifth night of parades in Sapucaí

Most patients had trauma from falls, bruises, discomfort and high blood pressure.

On the third and final night of the Special Group parades, from 19pm on March 4 to 6am on March 5, the six medical posts of the Municipal Health Department (SMS) at the Sambadrome treated 545 people. Thirty-four patients required more complex care and were transferred to the Souza Aguiar and Miguel Couto municipal hospitals and to the Regional Emergency Centers of Centro and Leblon.

In total, during the five nights of parades (including two of the Gold Series), the SMS registered 2.135 patients being treated and 145 evacuations. Most of the patients had traumas from falls, bruises, cuts, sprains, exogenous intoxication from excessive alcohol consumption, malaise and high blood pressure due to the effort of the parade, and decompensation of some pre-existing chronic disease.

At the Sambadrome, the special structure of the SMS provided 32 beds, seven of which were for advanced support, and 12 hydration chairs, distributed among the six stations, during the five days of parades. There were 200 professionals and 16 ambulances with advanced support (mobile ICU). The stations will reopen next Friday, for the presentation of the junior schools, and on Saturday, for the parade of the champions.

The SMS has over three decades of expertise in handling major events and incidents with multiple victims. The hospital network is prepared to support the structure set up at the Sambadrome. The emergency and urgent care units receive reinforcements during their shifts to receive patients from pre-hospital care units when necessary.

Health surveillance

In order to detect possible events of public health relevance, the Health Surveillance Superintendence continues to work at the Sambadrome with a team from the Strategic Health Surveillance Information Center (CIEVS-Rio) monitoring care at medical posts. During the five days of parades, 141 occurrences requiring compulsory notification were identified, but no diseases or conditions of epidemiological concern were recorded.

Health Surveillance Actions

On Tuesday night, teams from the Municipal Institute of Health Surveillance, Zoonosis Surveillance and Agricultural Inspection (Ivisa-Rio) made 53 visits to food services, medical care stations, ambulances, stands and facilities at the Sambadrome. Twenty-one food samples were collected for analysis by the Municipal Public Health Laboratory (LASP) on the third night of the Special Group parades.

COMLURB

Carnival 2025: Comlurb collects 75 tons of waste after the third and final night of the Special Group parades

The last night of blocks resulted in 93,3 tons being removed from the streets

The third night of the parades of the major samba schools of the Rio Carnival, this Tuesday (04/03) at the Sambadrome, generated 75 tons of waste, with 47,3 tons in the internal area, 7,8 tons of which were potentially recyclable materials. In the external area and surroundings, 19,8 tons of trash were collected. The cleaning of the Samba Catwalk is finished with washing, which with lavender essence gives a special touch to the service.

The street blocks that took place on Tuesday totaled 85,3 tons of waste, with highlights for the Vagalume O Verde block, which generated 10 tons, the Banda de Ipanema block, with 6,4 tons, and the Fervo da Lud block, with 6,3 tons.

The parades on Intendente Magalhães and Avenida Chile and the popular dances in the neighborhoods generated 98,4 tons of waste throughout Tuesday.

Comlurb mobilized around 8.500 street cleaners during Carnival, working at all the party spots, such as the Sambadrome, street blocks, Intendente Magalhães and popular dances. The cleaning is being carried out with more than 200 motorized vehicles and with the provision of approximately 12.500 240-liter containers and large-capacity containers with 1.200 liters, so that partygoers can dispose of their waste correctly.

Comlurb's mega cleaning operation takes place before, during and after the samba school and street party parades, covering the main roads and adjacent streets, with mechanized sweeping, washing, emptying of waste bins and containers, and waste removal. To ensure the cleanliness of the environments, the Company used 20 thousand liters of soap and 5 thousand liters of eucalyptus essence, more than double the amount used last year. These products are applied after hydraulic cleaning and in sprayers, especially in the chemical toilet areas, providing a more pleasant environment for partygoers.

Comlurb also cleans the two medical stations installed in the parade areas of the megablocos, in the Center, and the four medical stations at the Sambadrome. Each health station has two street cleaners dedicated to cleaning.

CONSERVATION

Teams perfume Sapucaí and keep the drainage galleries clean

During the parades, the drains on the Samba Runway are deodorized

The General Coordination of Special Operations, of the Municipal Department of Conservation and Public Services, in partnership with Comlurb, applied lavender scent essence to the drains of Marques de Sapucaí, after each school passed by, during the last day of the Group's parades. The action will also take place on Champions Saturday.

After another night, the team cleaned the 46 drains and unblocked the branches of the Sambadrome.

WOMEN

Agents provided ten services to women during Carnival

Teams were at the Sapucaí and Intendente parades, in addition to the city's main blocks

Teams from the Special Secretariat for Women's Policies and Care of the Rio City Hall were present at the last night of the Special Group parades at Marquês de Sapucaí, on Tuesday (4/03). The professionals were also at the main blocks and points of the carnival in Rio and will return to Estrada Intendente Magalhães (days 7 and 8) and to the Parade of Champions (8), at Sapucaí. The goal of the Safer Carnival for Women campaign is to support carnival-goers, tourists and workers, in addition to raising awareness about combating violence and sexual harassment. The secretariat has tripled the number of specialized professionals to offer immediate support and support to women in cases of harassment or violence, as well as emergency referrals, through a partnership with L'Oréal Paris. Last year, there were 88 mobilizers; this year, there are 270.

ENVIRONMENT

Folia Verde: sustainability shines on the last night of the Special Group Parades

Teams collected 32 tons of recyclable materials throughout Carnival

On the third and final night of the Special Group parades at Marquês de Sapucaí, the Folia Verde campaign, from the Municipal Secretariat for the Environment and Climate (SMAC), continued to be a true spectacle in its own right, ensuring selective waste collection and raising environmental awareness among revelers.

While the samba schools enchanted the public with their performances, SMAC teams worked behind the scenes, collecting and separating the waste generated. The same action was repeated in the street blocks, which also received the attention of the campaign.

One of the highlights of the evening was the presentation of the Selo Carioca Folia Verde (Green Carioca Folia Seal) to two groups that stood out for their sustainable practices: Orquestra Voadora and Sereias da Guanabara, as well as the megabloco Fervo da Lud. The recognition is an incentive for more groups to adopt measures that minimize the environmental impact of Carnival.

The waste collection figures are impressive: adding up Sapucaí, street blocks and Intendente Magalhães, 32 tons of recyclable materials were collected, demonstrating the partygoers' commitment to the environmental cause.

The Folia Verde campaign continues in action during the counting of the scores that takes place this Wednesday in Cidade do Samba, also making its presence felt in the Children's Parade and the traditional Saturday of Champions. In addition, more street blocks will receive a visit from the campaign on the last weekend of Carnival, reinforcing SMAC's commitment to sustainability at all times during the festivities.

Important Recommendations

  • Preferably use public transport (train or subway);
  • If you are boarding at Santos Dumont Airport and Rio Bus Station, try to arrive early;
  • Avoid driving in areas where there will be street parties and floats;
  • Look for alternative routes. There are a large number of closures around the city, with movement of floats, blocks and processions;
  • During Carnival, Rio City Hall monitors the concentration of people in the Lapa region, however, no traffic restrictions are planned in the area;
  • Respect the parking bans and pay attention to the restricted hours, as trailers are circulating around the city;
  • To ensure the safety of party-goers, we inform you that crossing must be done exclusively in the pedestrian crossing and always with extra care;
  • It is very important that the instructions of traffic agents and all signage installed in the area are respected;
  • Residents who have a private car and a parking space and who need to access the closed area of the Sambadrome must do so via Largo do Estácio, always carrying proof of residence (electricity, gas, telephone bill) in their name.
