The month of August continues with the routine schedule of actions to prevent dengue, Zika, and chikungunya (arboviruses). This is the "SVS na Rua" strategy of the Municipal Health Department (SMS), which this week will extend inspections to 15 neighborhoods in Rio.

This Tuesday (25), the week's activities begin in Penha Circular. The following day (26), Wednesday, the teams will be in Santa Teresa, Freguesia (Jacarepaguá) and Pechincha. On Thursday (27), it will be the turn of the neighborhoods Flamengo, Vila Isabel, Cocotá, Rocha, Colégio, Parque Anchieta, Realengo, Cosmos, Campo Grande, Guaratiba, Paciência and, again, Santa Teresa. Finally, on Friday (28), SVS na Rua returns to Campo Grande and Guaratiba.

Up to August 15th of this year, 7.548.137 inspections were carried out on properties for the prevention and control of Aedes aegypti, the mosquito vector of these diseases. And 1.055.525 containers that could serve as mosquito breeding grounds were treated and eliminated. In 2025, 12.297.072 visits to properties were carried out and 1.684.674 containers were treated or eliminated.

Educational and social mobilization actions are among the priorities of the Municipal Health Department (SMS) in the prevention of urban arboviruses. Public awareness and social responsibility are essential individual and collective health measures for controlling these diseases. When necessary, the public can request inspections or report potential mosquito breeding sites through the 1746 hotline.
