It is not necessary to fast, but it is recommended that the person has not eaten fatty foods before donating - Edu Kapps/SMS

Albert Schweitzer Municipal Hospital in Realengo is holding a blood donation drive this Thursday (July 10th) from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. in the unit's auditorium (on the 15nd floor). The drive is the result of a partnership between the unit and Hemorio, which provides blood products to more than 2 public hospitals in Rio de Janeiro, primarily for emergencies.

After collection, the blood components are separated, and up to four people can benefit from the donation. Within 24 hours of donation, the donor's body begins to replenish some of the removed substances, meaning the next collection can be done after eight weeks for men and 12 for women, as the blood will already have the reconstituted components.

Donating blood is a safe and life-saving act. To be a blood donor, you must present an official photo ID; be between 16 and 69 years old (those under 18 must have authorization from a guardian); be in good health; and weigh more than 50 kg. You do not need to be fasting. However, it is recommended that you have not eaten fatty foods in the last four hours. Another important factor is to be well-rested.

People who have tattoos or piercings must wait six months to donate. Those who have recently had COVID-19 must wait ten days after recovering. Thirty days after donating, volunteers can get the results of laboratory tests performed on a small blood sample taken at the time of collection.
