Mariska Ribeiro Women's Hospital, in Bangu, launches blood donation campaign - Edu Kapps/ SMS

Next Tuesday (12/11), the Mariska Ribeiro Women's Hospital, in Bangu, in the West Zone, is holding a blood donation campaign, from 10 am to 15 pm, in the auditorium located on the 2nd floor of the unit. This is a partnership between the unit and Hemorio, responsible for providing blood products to more than 200 hospitals in the public network of Rio de Janeiro, mainly for emergencies.

Donating blood is a safe and life-saving act: for every bag collected, four people benefit. Within 24 hours of donating, the donor's body begins to rebuild some of the substances that were removed, so that the next collection can be done after eight weeks for men; and twelve for women, since the blood will already have the reconstituted components.

To be a blood donor, you must present an official photo ID; be between 16 and 69 years old (those under 18 must have authorization from a guardian); be in good health; and weigh more than 50 kg. You do not need to be fasting. However, it is recommended that you have not eaten fatty foods in the last four hours. Another important factor is to be well-rested.

Within 30 days, volunteers can receive the results of laboratory tests performed on a small blood sample taken from the donation. People who have had tattoos or piercings must wait six months to donate. Those who have recently had COVID-19 must wait ten days after recovering.
