The Pedro II Municipal Hospital, in partnership with Hemorio, is holding a blood donation drive this Thursday (September 17th), from 10 am to 3 pm. Donors interested in participating can go to the Companions' Area, in the general reception area of the Red Room at the unit. The campaign aims to reinforce the blood bank that supplies more than 200 public hospitals in Rio de Janeiro, including emergency rooms.

Donating blood is a safe act that can save up to four lives. Within 24 hours of donation, the donor's body begins to replenish some of the substances that were removed, allowing for a new donation after eight weeks for men and 12 weeks for women. Thirty days after donation, the volunteer can receive the results of laboratory tests performed on a sample taken during the donation.

To be a blood donor, you must present an official photo ID; be between 16 and 69 years old (those under 18 must have parental/guardian authorization); be in good health and well-rested; and weigh more than 50 kg. Fasting is not required. However, it is recommended that you have not eaten fatty foods in the last four hours.

People who have had tattoos or piercings must wait six months before donating again. Those who have recently had COVID-19 must wait ten days after recovery.
