Instituto Nise da Silveira opens artistic occupation in the old wards

The Nise da Silveira Municipal Institute, through Espaço Travessia, will open this Friday (6/5), at 14 pm, the artistic occupation “Brasil Delivery [we just don’t make our dreams precarious]”, which brings together works by around ninety guest artists from the suburbs, Baixada Fluminense and Latin America, as well as users and mental health professionals. The exhibition will be held in the old hospital rooms and will be open to visitors until September of this year.

Brasil Delivery invites us to reflect on the marvelous, the fantastic, the field of dreams and the utopias that intersect with the unstable and the contradictions. The project's curator, Marcelo Valle, explains how the initiative works:

 

– An artistic occupation is not a simple exhibition; there are many differences in the execution of this type of project. In an occupation, the assembly and curation process are open to visitors. There is also the possibility of changes occurring during the exhibition period, such as new artists who may join and others who may leave, regardless of the pre-defined deadlines.

 

The occupation will take place at the Espaço Travessia of the Nise da Silveira Municipal Institute, at Rua Ramiro Magalhães, n° 521, Engenho de Dentro, from Monday to Friday, from 10 am to 17 pm. Visits may also be made on some Saturdays. Information will be available at social media of the Space. Entry is free and no reservation is necessary.

Crossing Space

The Center for Culture, Science and Health/ Espaço Travessia occupies two floors of disused wards at the Nise da Silveira Municipal Institute. Its purpose is to be a meeting place, a place for artists to socialize, produce and promote their work, especially from the suburbs of Rio de Janeiro. The professionals who work there also promote mental health through various artistic and cultural activities, with spaces for exhibitions, studios, dance and theater rehearsals.
