Suburban Madness pays tribute to Dona Ivone Lara with a samba circle at Engenho de Dentro

Loucura Suburbana, a carnival collective that brings together professionals and patients from the mental health network, as well as residents of Engenho de Dentro, will hold a samba circle in honor of Dona Ivone Lara this Thursday (23/06), from 16 pm to 20 pm. The event will be held in the forest that bears the name of the great lady of samba, next to the Nise da Silveira Municipal Institute, and will also feature the participation of the A Insandecida drum section, featuring the greats André Lara, Marquinhos Diniz, Bruno Castro, and the Jongo da Serrinha group.

Dona Ivone Lara, who died in 2018, was a nurse and dedicated part of her life to public health. She was the main assistant to psychiatrist Nise da Silveira, who created a new way of caring for mental health patients, with art and humane treatment.
