The Rio de Janeiro City Hall, through the Municipal Health Department, is opening the second week of the multi-vaccination campaign with a new strategy to intensify the application of the measles vaccine to people aged between 15 and 49. The SMS has partnered with four pharmacy chains to offer the vaccine in drugstores located in the West, North, South and Central zones from October 13th (next Tuesday) to October 30th. Vaccination hours will be from 10 am to 15 pm, Monday through Friday. The addresses of the participating pharmacies can be found at the link: https://bit.ly/3nB3icU .

The partner pharmacies belong to the Nossa Drogaria, Venâncio, Farmácia do Leme and Drogaria Maria Letícia chains and all have health licenses for immunization. They will operate as external vaccination centers, with guidance and monitoring from the Immunization Program Coordination of the Municipal Health Department. At the same time, all 237 municipal health units continue to offer the vaccine.

Even those who have already been vaccinated should get vaccinated, since this is a booster dose. The SMS recommends bringing your vaccination card, but even those who do not have a card will be vaccinated. The application is free. Children will not be vaccinated in pharmacies.

Since the intensification campaign began on October 05, uptake has been low. As of October 08, a total of 6.057 doses had been administered, 3.488 in the 15 to 49 age group and 707 in the six to eleven month age group.

National Multivaccination Campaign continues with low demand in Rio

The first week of the National Multivaccination Campaign, which began on October 05th, remains with a worryingly low adherence.

Between October 05 and 08, vaccination against polio – which causes polio – reached only 3,6% of the vaccination coverage target in the municipality. Only 10.732 doses were administered.

There is also little adherence to the Multivaccination Campaign, which aims to update the vaccination records of children and adolescents aged zero to 15, with the offer of 18 routine vaccines at all 237 vaccination posts in the municipal network.

As of October 08, 30.456 people had visited health units in the city of Rio de Janeiro, of which 22.184 had been immunized. In total, 36.629 doses of the various vaccines offered had been administered, with the following distribution by age group: 30.807 doses in children aged zero to six; and 5.822 doses in the age group aged seven to fourteen.

Vaccination D-Day will be on October 17th

The Municipal Health Department will participate in the D-Day of the Multivaccination and Vaccination Campaign against Polio on October 17. Exceptionally on this date, a Saturday, all 237 posts, in family clinics and municipal health centers, of the SMS will receive the population for multivaccination.

Vaccines that are part of the campaign

All vaccines on the child and adolescent calendars are being offered in the National Multivaccination Campaign. The calendar for children up to 10 years old includes 14 vaccines: BCG, Hepatitis B, Penta (diphtheria, tetanus, whooping cough, hepatitis B and polio), Inactivated Polio, Oral Polio, Rotavirus, Pneumo 10, Meningo C, Yellow Fever, Triple Viral (measles, mumps and rubella), Tetra Viral (measles, mumps, rubella and chickenpox), DTP (triple bacterial), Hepatitis A and Chickenpox.

For adolescents, there is reinforcement of immunizations carried out in childhood, with the application of vaccines for Hepatitis B, Yellow Fever, Triple Viral, Diphtheria and adult tetanus, DTaP, Meningococcal ACWY, Quadrivalent HPV and Chickenpox.

The measles vaccine is also being administered during the campaign.
