City Hall reopens completely revitalized Sepetiba UPA

The renovation of the UPA in Sepetiba was the first since its inauguration in January 2012 - Marcos de Paula/City Hall of Rio Another UPA was handed over to the people of Rio de Janeiro by the City of Rio, after undergoing extensive renovations. The UPA in Sepetiba was reopened this Saturday (10/6), with the presence of Mayor Eduardo Paes, Health Secretary Daniel Soranz, and Deputy Mayor of the West Zone, Diogo Borba. It is the fourth Emergency Care Unit to be completely renovated this year. The UPAs in Engenho de Dentro, Senador Camará, and Paciência had also undergone structural works. In addition, the City also opened a new UPA in January, the 15th in the municipal network, in Del Castilho.
This renovation of the UPA in Sepetiba was the first since its inauguration in January 2012. The work included replacing the roof and floor, a new façade, general painting, revitalization of the gardens, new external lighting and climate control with the installation of new air conditioning units. As with the other units, the extensive intervention did not impact public services, which were maintained without any interruption.
– The City Hall has completed another renovation of an Emergency Care Unit. It was a huge challenge because this unit did not have any working air conditioning units, and the entire floor and roof had to be replaced due to four years of no maintenance. Therefore, it was very important to have this investment from the City Hall of Rio in the renovation of this unit. The UPA in Sepetiba is one of the ones that handles the most emergency care cases in the city of Rio and, without a shadow of a doubt, is one of the most important in this region – stated Secretary Daniel Soranz.
Focus on welcoming citizens
More than just a structural intervention, the project paid attention to detail to improve the user experience, from the moment they arrive at the UPA to the moment they leave. This includes attentive service, new equipment and furniture, well-marked environments, pediatric care rooms decorated with children's themes, installation of televisions in the waiting room, important information for users on information boards, and open Wi-Fi. The result is greater comfort and hospitality for citizens, which demonstrates the City of Rio's concern for providing quality care.
– The UPA is beautiful, wonderful and with excellent service. I am waiting to have my blood pressure checked and everyone is very attentive. I used to go to this UPA and now it is much better. Before the renovation it was in very poor condition – said housewife Marli Vieira de Menezes.
Around 105 thousand emergency and urgent care visits per month
The UPA in Sepetiba has 14 beds, four consulting rooms (three for medical clinics and one for pediatrics); two for risk assessment and a social services room. The team is made up of 253 professionals. On average, around 7 emergency and urgent care services are performed at the facility per month. X-rays, laboratory tests and electrocardiograms are available to users.
– This is yet another UPA that we have delivered, restructured, and with this we will provide more dignity to people who need care in this region – declared the deputy mayor of the West Zone, Diogo Borba.
UPAs are structures of intermediate complexity between Basic Health Units and hospital emergency rooms. Together with Regional Emergency Centers and hospitals, the units make up an organized network of Emergency Care. In total, the city of Rio has 15 UPAs, which provide an average of 105 monthly consultations.
