The Academia Carioca Program, from the Rio Municipal Health Department, will hold an action this Wednesday (09/04) to mark World Physical Activity Day, celebrated last Sunday (6). The activities will be held from 8:30 am to 12 pm, at the Rita Lee Olympic Park, in Barra da Tijuca, for program participants and their families.
The program reinforces the main objective of the Academia Carioca Program: to increase the level of physical activity of the population through physical exercise, to ensure an active and healthy life. There will be 121 physical education professionals leading group classes in a dynamic and rhythmic way, with warm-ups, gymnastics and dance/rhythms. There will also be a guided walk through Rita Lee Park and activities on the space's equipment.
– The Program promotes physical benefits to increase functional capacity and prevent diseases; emotional benefits, such as reducing anxiety and improving self-esteem; social benefits, by strengthening bonds and coexistence; and cultural benefits, by restoring active leisure and healthy use of spaces in the territory. We promote collective health with a real impact on people’s daily lives – says Junia Cardoso, coordinator of the Academia Carioca Program.
Launched in 2009, the Academia Carioca Program will complete 16 years in 2025 with a presence in 91% of Primary Care units (AP), family clinics and municipal health centers. Currently, more than 198 thousand people are part of the care routine in the 239 Primary Care units in the city of Rio.
