The Municipal Health Department (SMS) will have a special emergency medical assistance scheme during the samba school parades at the Sambadrome, between Friday and Tuesday (February 17 and 21), and on Champions Saturday (February 2). Seven medical posts will be distributed along Marquês de Sapucaí Avenue, at strategic points, to assist those in need. In addition, professionals from the Municipal Health Surveillance Institute (IVISA-Rio) will carry out actions to monitor compliance with health regulations.

The medical stations will be located in sectors 1 (concentration), 2, 7, 8, 10 (Rua Salvador de Sá), 11 and Apoteose (dispersal) and will operate from 19:21 p.m. until the end of the parades. On the day of the presentation of the children's schools (18), the stations will operate from 32:170 p.m. The service structure will have a total of 26 beds, eight of which will be for advanced support. In total, 17 professionals will be involved in the operation. On each day, the stations will have 27 doctors, XNUMX nurses and XNUMX nursing technicians on duty to assist school members, the public or workers who need assistance.

For patients with more serious conditions, there will be ambulances with advanced support (mobile ICU) to make the transfer, coordinated by the Municipal Regulatory Center, to hospitals or UPAs in the network. There will be 16 ambulances with advanced support (mobile ICU) on standby on each day of the Gold Series and Special Group schools parade and on Champions Saturday. For the children's parade, there will be 10 vehicles available.

– Our medical posts are prepared and equipped to provide immediate care for emergencies that arise. For the most serious cases, we will be able to provide initial care and stabilize the patient's condition, and then safely transfer the patient to a hospital with more resources – says the municipal health secretary, Rodrigo Prado.

The SMS will also guarantee health care during the counting in Apoteose on Ash Wednesday (22/2), with a medical post operating in Praça da Apoteose. Two ambulances with advanced support will be made available to transfer patients with more serious cases.

The Municipal Health Department has years of experience operating medical clinics at events with large crowds, such as Carnival and New Year's Eve. The SMS medical clinics have also operated during the technical rehearsals of the samba schools on the weekends leading up to the parades, providing 107 services and seven transfers to emergency care units.

IVISA-Rio inspections

The Municipal Institute of Health Surveillance, Zoonosis Surveillance and Agricultural Inspection (IVISA-Rio) will also monitor compliance with health standards in the facilities and in the provision of food and services at the Sambadrome, Terreirão do Samba and in the surrounding street vendors. In total, 78 employees will participate in the actions. The Institute will maintain a permanent operational base in Sector 13 of the Sambadrome.
