With thousands of visitors in the city, the Municipal Health Department (SMS) reinforces protection of the population against measles - Press Release / SMS

With the large influx of people in Rio for the seven days of Rock in Rio, which begins this week at the Olympic Park in Barra da Tijuca, the Municipal Health Department (SMS) began an intensified measles immunization campaign in the city this Thursday (September 3rd). Vaccination points (PV) have been set up at the main entry points to the municipality and in locations with high pedestrian traffic. The measure aims to reinforce the protection of the population during the period when the city will receive people from various states and countries, including places where there have been recent cases of the disease.

There are seven vaccination points that started operating this Thursday and will be open on the 4th, 5th, 10th, 11th, and 12th at the Rio Bus Station (2nd floor near the massage chairs); Galeão Airport (Terminal 2, Arrivals) and Santos Dumont Airport (Arrivals, Gate A); on the Copacabana beachfront (corner next to the Copacabana Palace); in Urca Square (near the Sugarloaf Cable Car) and in the Via Parque Shopping Mall (near the Food Court) and Metropolitano Barra Shopping Mall (south entrance). In addition to the MMR vaccine, which protects against measles, mumps, and rubella, vaccines against yellow fever and influenza, among others, will also be available.

The multi-vaccination campaign continues throughout the network.

The municipal health network is also continuing with the Multivaccination Campaign for children and adolescents under 15 years of age. The initiative has been extended until September 12th in order to give parents and guardians the opportunity to update the vaccination schedule of their children. This Friday (4) all units will operate normally, at their respective times.

All vaccines included in the National Immunization Schedule are available at health units, according to the age group and vaccination status of each child or adolescent. Among the vaccines available for children are BCG, hepatitis A and B, pentavalent, polio (IPV), rotavirus, pneumococcal, meningococcal C, yellow fever, MMR (measles, mumps, rubella), varicella, DTP (diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis), influenza, and COVID-19. For adolescents, vaccines against HPV (9 to 19 years), meningococcal ACWY (11 to 14 years), dengue (10 to 14 years), and influenza will be available.

For vaccination, parents or guardians must present the child's or adolescent's identification document and, whenever possible, the vaccination record or proof of vaccination, so that the health team can assess the vaccination history.

Vaccinations are available at all 242 Primary Care units (family clinics and municipal health centers) in the city and at the Super Centro Carioca de Vacinação units in Botafogo (open every day from 8 am to 22 pm), in the West Zone (at ParkShoppingCampoGrande, following the shopping mall's opening hours) and in the North Zone (Shopping Nova América).
