The Rio Municipal Health Department (SMS) is starting a campaign to combat measles this Monday (24). The goal is to take the vaccine to places with high public circulation, making it easier for Rio residents to access immunization. Vaccination campaigns will take place from Monday to Friday, from 8 am to 16 pm, at the Gentileza Terminal and Santos Dumont Airport. At Central do Brasil, immunization will be carried out on Tuesday and Thursday, at the same time.

Measles is an acute, highly transmissible febrile disease that can affect people of any age. It is transmitted directly through person-to-person contact, through droplets of secretions expelled when speaking, coughing or sneezing. In addition, contagion also occurs through the dispersion of droplets with viral particles in the air, in closed environments such as schools, daycare centers and clinics. In 2025, to date, the city of Rio has not registered any cases of the disease, but there are recent records of cases in neighboring cities.

The objective is to guarantee the measles vaccination schedule for adults aged 18 to 59 who are not immunized, or for those in the age group up to 29 who have received only one dose, in order to complete their vaccination schedule with the second dose.

The vaccine is available for children and adults in all 239 Primary Care units in the city (family clinics and municipal health centers), in addition to the Super Centro Carioca de Vacinação, in Botafogo, which is open every day, from 8 am to 22 pm; and the Super Centro Carioca de Vacinação Campo Grande unit, located in Park Shopping Campo Grande, which is also open every day, according to the shopping center's opening hours.
