Agents from the SVS na Rua strategy will visit 13 neighborhoods in Rio de Janeiro this week to work on combating arboviruses (dengue, Zika, and chikungunya). Inspections, checking for potential breeding sites of the Aedes aegypti mosquito, treatment, and local awareness activities are among the actions that will be carried out.

On Wednesday (September 16th), the SVS na Rua program will begin in Andaraí, Jardim América, Jacarepaguá, and Itanhangá. On Thursday (September 17th), it will be the turn of the neighborhoods Botafogo, Vila Isabel, Água Santa, Méier, Quintino Bocaiúva, Campinho, Campo Grande, and Barra de Guaratiba. On Friday (September 18th), the week's program will end in Guaratiba and, again, in Campo Grande.

Up to September 5th of this year, 8.453.866 inspections were carried out on properties for the prevention and control of Aedes aegypti, the mosquito vector of these diseases. And 1.158.044 containers that could serve as mosquito breeding grounds were treated and eliminated. In 2025, 12.297.072 visits to properties were carried out and 1.684.674 containers were treated or eliminated.

Educational and social mobilization actions are a priority for the Municipal Health Department in the prevention of urban arboviruses. Public awareness and social responsibility are essential individual and collective sanitary measures for controlling these diseases. When necessary, the public can request inspections or report potential mosquito breeding sites through the 1746 hotline.
