  • Viradão Esportivo opens Polo Nise da Silveira with outdoor activities for the population

The Nise da Silveira Municipal Institute is holding the Viradão Esportivo on the morning of this Saturday (02/10). The event, with outdoor activities and following health protocols due to the pandemic, inaugurates the Nise da Silveira Sports Center. The proposal is to promote the construction of positive experiences of social well-being and community integration, considering that the surrounding population is part of the transformations underway at the institute.

From 9 am to 12 pm, there will be activities such as boxing, karate, capoeira, muay thai and a craft fair from the Income Generation Project. The event's partners include the Karate Social Project, Top Brother Institute and Muay Thai Team BG. The institute is located at Rua Ramiro Magalhães 521, Engenho de Dentro.

In addition to encouraging the practice of physical activity, sport and leisure as a right for all, the center will be a health promotion agent capable of diversifying social exchanges, fostering coexistence, autonomy and the exchange of knowledge between different age groups, overcoming social barriers and breaking down the walls of exclusion.

In the process of deconstructing asylums, which seeks to include patients in society, the institute has been expanding its horizons and strengthening the use of its physical space as another community resource in the city's North Zone. Several projects bring together professionals from various areas, mental health care users and volunteers, promoting the reduction of the social stigma associated with the space through art, culture, sports and citizenship.

The inauguration of the center is part of an initiative that also involves the occupation and creation of new meanings for former psychiatric care spaces, which strengthens prevention and physical and emotional well-being as innovative strategies for a better quality of life. Considering the effects of social isolation resulting from the pandemic, physical activity is a protective factor for mental health. Sports and leisure are both agents of health promotion and social inclusion.
