Classes will be held at the Municipal Reference Center for Youth and Adult Education, in downtown Rio - Disclosure Registration is now open for the first class of the Dam+ Project, which will offer scholarships and tutoring to obtain a certificate of completion of Elementary School for trans and transvestite people, starting in August. The first group of registrants will have free tutoring and, at the end of the cycle, students will be able to obtain their Elementary School certification. Classes will begin in August and will be held daily, from 13 pm to 17 pm, at the Municipal Reference Center for Youth and Adult Education, on Rua da Conceição, in downtown Rio. In addition to all teaching materials, the project provides snacks, transportation vouchers and a monthly stipend of R$600 for those who take the tutoring classes.
Dam+ is developed by the City of Rio through the Executive Coordination for Sexual Diversity (CEDS), an agency linked to the Secretariat of Government and Public Integrity. The initiative is the result of a partnership coordinated by CEDS together with the Municipal Secretariat of Social Assistance (SMAS) and has the partnership of the Municipal Secretariat of Education (SME), Health (SMS), Labor and Employment (SMTE), Culture (SMC), Finance (SMF), Comlurb, the Attorney General's Office of the Municipality and the Public Defender's Office of the State of Rio de Janeiro.
– The objective of Dam+ is to provide education to trans and transvestite people who did not have access to primary education, and to give them certification of completion of this phase, as well as to prepare them to eventually take public exams or enter the job market, preparing them for specific areas – said Carlos Tufvesson, coordinator of Sexual Diversity at the City Hall.
The daily classes will be structured as follows: the first two hours will always be taught by teachers from the Department of Education, while the last two hours will be scheduled by the other departments involved in the project, which will teach classes related to their areas of expertise.
