  • Tourism Observatory launched to gather data on visitor arrivals to the city

Data on visitor arrivals to the city of Rio is now being gathered at the Tourism Observatory, an initiative by the City Hall that is taking place for the first time since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. The complete dashboard, most of which covers the period between 2019 and 2023, can be found at website.

For some time now, the municipal sector has needed a relevant, reliable panel provided by the market itself, recording the arrival of tourists, visitors and guests to the capital.

Due to the pandemic, for a long time this market faced difficulties in gathering relevant data. The information available at the Tourism Observatory is provided by the sector itself, such as Rodoviária Novo Rio, Rio Galeão, Bio Parque Rio, Hoteis.Rio and Paineiras-Cristo Redentor. In addition, there are figures on the collection of Tourist ISS (2022/23), among other financial indicators, which help the government and businesspeople in the development of more effective policies and programs.

The Observatory is a project of the Municipal Department of Tourism in partnership with the City Hall Data Office, which worked on compiling, organizing and disseminating the aforementioned figures.
