Tourist attractions such as Christ, Arcos da Lapa and Pão de Açúcar will be monitored by managers

To enhance the positive experience of visitors arriving in Rio de Janeiro, the Municipal Department of Tourism created the role of Local Managers of Tourist Areas, known as G-TURs. These professionals will work at strategic points for the sector in the city. They are: Orla Conde/Boulevard Olímpico, Pão de Açúcar, Escadaria Selaron, Arcos da Lapa and Cristo Redentor/Trem do Corcovado.

The names of the first people appointed to the position are being published in the Official Gazette. Among other tasks, they will have to improve accessibility and infrastructure, cleanliness, sustainability, signage and urban planning in these locations. The idea is that popular tourist spots will have a kind of superintendent, similar to the deputy mayors.

G-TURs will be identified by wearing a special uniform, consisting of a vest with the project's artwork, which will make the professional clearly visible to tourists. Managers will have to produce monthly reports, which will be used to improve public policies at tourist attractions.

The G-TURs will always work in pairs, preferably on the streets. The program will have partnerships with departments such as Conservation and Social Assistance, and agencies such as CET-Rio, Rio-Águas, Rio Luz, Comlurb and the Municipal Guard.
