Rio Mayor Eduardo Paes attended the opening ceremony of the 50th Abav Expo 2023, this Wednesday (27/9), World Tourism Day, at Riocentro. After 11 years outside Rio, the largest tourism fair in Latin America, organized by the Brazilian Association of Travel Agencies (Abav), had as its main attraction on its first day a lecture by Californian Steve Wozniak, co-founder of Apple.

– It is a pleasure to welcome everyone to this Abav meeting. Rio feels honored to be able to unite these wonders of Brazil and all the country’s economic potential. Rio wants its own identity to reflect Brazil’s desires and aspirations – stated Mayor Eduardo Paes, who announced the City Hall’s intention to sponsor the next editions of Abav Expo in the city.

The city of Rio de Janeiro, the host of the fair, welcomes participants with a 200m² high-tech stand with 16 LEDs suspended in a cube shape. During the three days of Abav, the space organized by the Municipal Department of Tourism will feature a mini-arena, called Rio Talks, with a capacity for 40 people, which will present major players in tourism entertainment.

– We will have more than 60 presentations during these three days of the event, with Abav fulfilling its role as a promoter of tourism, delivering training to more than five thousand people. You will travel through the 37 thousand m² on a journey of an Abav that is even more inclusive, environmentally responsible and with a strong focus on governance. Welcome to the 50th Abav Expo – highlighted the president of Abav national, Magda Nassar.

Twenty-six networking bays will be offered to HotéisRio, in addition to rooms with differentiated acoustics for private sector meetings, bilingual receptionists (English/Spanish) and a support team ready to assist participants.

– Tourism in Rio de Janeiro is, without a shadow of a doubt, the biggest driver of economic development in the state of Rio. Social inequalities will only disappear through economic development, education and culture. And I couldn’t help but campaign for Rio to host (ABAV Expo) here again in 2024 – said the president of Fecomércio RJ, Antonio Florencio Queiroz. He thanked the Ministry of Tourism for its efforts in bringing the headquarters of the World Tourism Organization to the city of Rio.
